Will the 50mm 1.8D fit the Nikon D3100?

So i just got my Nikon D3100 a month ago, I'm loving it and i learned most of what's essential. Now the kit lens is good but it's not durable, the build quality is totally not good and the glass is definitely not that great, So i was thinking about investing in a better lens, and the 50mm 1.8D seemed like a better choice, it's cheap and it's build quality is great, not mentioning the ability to step down to an aperture of 1.8, which gives a more shallow DoF, which is exactly what i need! So, before i would buy the lens, i watched some videos on Youtube and some guy in one of the videos said that Nikon produced a 1.8G version because the 1.8D could NOT be mounted to the Nikon D3100, is it true?

Can i mount the 1.8D on the Nikon D3100?

Yes the 50mm f1.8 WILL work on your D3100 but it will not autofocus, you will have to manually focus it. There's a new AF-S version of the 50mm f1.8 but it's much more expensive.

There's a table here;

which shows which older Nikon lenses are mountable & which will focus/meter on your D3100.
