WIll my broken AF-S lens work with Nikon body that supports AF-I lenses?
I have a standard Nikon 18-55mm AF-S lens. The autofocus is broken (I assume the silent wave motor) and I'm wondering if I buy a Nikon D7000 that will work with say an AF-I lens ( a lens without the autofocus motor in the lens itself). Will a broken AF-S lens work like an AF-I lens when attached to a camera that supports AF-I focusing. Obviously when using the broken AF-S lens on the camera I would turn off the autofocus all together and turn it onto manual focus mode.
How did you break your lens?
If the auto-focus motor is broken, there's a strong possibility that other features of the lens are damaged as well.
To answer your question specifically, take your lens into a proper camera shop and see if it works on a D7000 My guess is that since the auto-focus is damaged, the on-camera auto-focus system will not work either.
Since the cost of repairing your lens may cost more than buying a new one.
