I haven't had the time to go to a nikon shop to ask this… But my lenses doesn't autofocus anymore… Even when i switch the button to auto instead of manual… So everytime when i'm taking photos i have to manually focus it. Is my lense broken?

if it helps i have a 18-55 lense

I think that it probably is broken, you should ask the nikon shop.

Are you trying to take picture of walls or in the dark?

Try to do a lamp or window. If it still doesn't work then see about getting it looked at.

When you say it doesn't autofocus, do you mean that it's unable to focus or that the motor itself refuses to work?

One thing you can try to do is make sure the electrical contacts are clean. Dirty electrical contacts prevent the camera body from communicating with the lens, making it unable to autofocus.

Another thing is that you should try autofocusing on a well-lit subject. Although the 18-55mm VR isn't subject to this, certain lenses have a very hard time autofocusing in dimly lit lighting, so this test will let you know if that's the case.

If all else fails, then you should probably get Nikon on the horn and see if you can get a repair.

Have you pulled the lens and cleaned the contacts on body and lens? Often a little dirt can get in there and stop the two from "talking". Try that first. Also do some shots in sunlight. If the cleaning
doesn't help then the lens is probably broken, so seek help.

A d5000 has a separate autofocus/manual focus option in the menus as well as a switch on the lens itself. Both can disable autofocus.
