Why won't my Nikon D3000 appear under devices on iPhoto?

When I plug my camera in iPhoto generally opens automatically and asks to import my pictures, however this time it isn't. I have restarted my computer, plugged my camera in fully, turned camera on and off, and fully charged my camera's battery. I've successfully imported pictures tons of times before and am very confused about why this is happening. I just got back from a trip and really want to upload my pictures.

Use a card reader. Take the storage card from the Nikon and place it in the USB card reader. Read the photos. If the card is still not recognized, read it on a PC. Then store the photos on a memory stick and read them on the Mac.
