Why am I so paranoid about money?

I'm 23 years old. I've always been paranoid about my bank account. I have $7, 500 in my account. I have about $600 worth of bills every month. I make $15/hr at my job. I start getting panicky when my account dips below a certain amount.

I just bought a Nikon D3000 DSLR Camera that was $450. And that took a lot out of my account. Now I'm all paranoid.

Should I be? Or am I completely being unreasonable?

Yes and no… I mean 7, 500 is a very good amount but it's good you aren't careless about it. I mean that's why rich people are rich! They are very cautious of their money

Only $600 in bills with a $15/hr job, and that balance should be rising pretty steadily, I would think. I make $10/hr, am spending $1, 200-1, 500/mo on my bills (mostly debt, to kill it), and still keep a steady $2, 000 in my account. While your problem is both a blessing and a curse, it is certainly more of the former than the latter. Just don't fall for some guy who likes to spend your money for you (like the old me).

You might want to also consider setting aside a certain amount of money each month, like 50 or 100, specifically for purchases like the camera - then you won't feel so bad about it. I had put aside earnings from side work towards a new computer build a year or so ago, and when it hit my goal of $800 much quicker than I expected, I felt a bit odd about it too, but then I remembered - this is what I had that money for in the first place!
