Which one is better, Nikon or Canon?

So i'm getting my early bday present in the end of june.
i CAN'T decide which brand to get.
which is better? For dslr's.

only from these two.nothing else please.
either the NIKON D5000 or CANON EOS Rebel XS 18-55IS Kit

i need one with really good quality and with VIDEO.
it HAS to be under $700 including tax.

The Canon. My husband and I bought a 300 dollar Canon last year, and it is AMAZING. He is really into photography and when we were looking, he said Canons are better cameras.

The rebel doesn't do video, the nikon does and it's more advanced being newer.

Neither brand is really better, just different

Neither brand is really better than the other, because in the end it all boils down to personal preference.

But in the case of these two cameras, you'll want the Nikon D5000 because the Canon Rebel XS can't record video anyway.
