Which one is better a Nikon camera or a Canon?

I want to get a camera and I have been looking at the Nikon D5000 and canons, which one is better? I want to be able to take clean crisp pictures.

Added (1). I want to be a able to take pictures of city lights… Things that are in action… I have only looked at the nikon… But which canons are good? I know they all are but which one specifically?

there's no such thing as "better" without a purpose.

to me, canon dslr's have more accessible controls like white balance and iso where as nikon dslr's are built a little better and i prefer the look of their lenses.

what you have to do is decide what you want to shoot and which camera has the features that you want for that type of shooting.

They Are The Top Two Camera Manufacturers In The World For A Reason; So Just Pick One. They Will Both Be Better At One Thing Than The Other Company But Then The 'Worse' Company Will Be Better For Something Else. They Will Both Take Great Pics But Canon Is Supposedly Better For Image Quality. It's All Up To The Person Behind The Camera To Create Quality Clear Pictures Not The Brand. I Went With A Canon 1000D & I Can't Wait Till I Get It. It May Not Be The Newest & It's Certainly The Cheapest But It's All I Need For My First DSLR. You Could Get One Too. Hope I Helped

They are both great brands to start with when searching for a camera. Not sure what type of photography equipment you're in the market for (digital or manual), but as far as compact digital cameras go, the Canon Powershot SD4000 is a great choice and gets a lot of great reviews.
