Which one is better nikon d3100 and nikon D5000?

I want to buy a slr and my budget is not very much high… I'm a bit confused in these cameras so anyone please tell me which one is better and also tell me about their prices and release date in india… Anyone who can suggest a better option than these two cameras so please tell me…

It's really hard to say. They are both entry level cameras, and the D5000 is one model up from the D3000, which was the D3100's predecessor. However, it is well known that Nikon ports the technology from the higher end models to their lower models fairly quickly, so the D3100 will have some features that the D5000 lacks.

But, the cameras are so close to each other image quality wise that it will make no difference which one you chose. So look to the options that are important to you; basically whether or not you want an articulated screen or not.

It has flip out screen (Live view screen)

D3100 is relatively new since the D5000 is discontinued (D5100 is the new version of D5000)

and D5100 is bit costly than D3100.

Release date of D3100 is August, 2010 (in India) (Cost is MRP Rs.32, 500 approx.)
D5100 was launched on April, 2011 (Cost is Rs.42, 900/- approx.)
