Which one is better, Nikon d3000, d3100, or d5000?

Looking to buy a camera. I've actually been looking ever since last year. (NOVEMBER 2010).

Nikon D3000 was perfect for me. As in, at reviews, prices, and all that - NOW, I have more knowledge about DSLR's and lenses.

My price limit is $900 maximum… Maybe stretch to $950.

If needed, $1000…

Rumor is that the D3000 and D5000 are being discontinued since the D3100 and D5100 have been introduced. The D90 is also on its way out as the D7000 is its replacement.

In my opinion there's one major feature to consider when looking at a Nikon DSLR: Does it have a focusing motor in the camera body? This feature allows use of the less-expensive Nikon AF lenses which will NOT auto focus on DSLRs like the D3000, D3100, D5000 and D5100. The D90 and D7000 have a focusing motor in the camera body. One example: The Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 prime lens is about $140.00 while the new Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8 prime lens is about $220.00. $80.00 saved is $80.00 saved.

Unfortunately, the Nikon D7000 w/18-105mm zoom lens is $1, 499.95 at B&H. B&H still shows the D90 w/18-105mm lens for $1, 099.95 but its listed as "Temporarily Unavailable".

I suggest taking a serious look at the Sony SLT A55. This DSLR has Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology which allows for full-time continuous auto focus whether you're shooting still images or 1080p HD video. It also allows shooting at 10fps (frames per second). The A55 has 2D or 3D Sweep Panorama as well as in-camera HDR. It also has a built-in GPS. Its shown at B&H with an 18-55mm zoom lens for $799.99 after a $50.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Free USA shipping is included.

Here are some reviews of the Sony SLT A55:

In my opinion the Sony SLT A55 offers a lot more for less money.
