Get any camera, learn how to use it, and it becomes the best camera that you have. Really, the best camera is the one you have.

Nikon D3100 is a good and perfect camera for beginner. You will learn a lot of things with this camera. Forget all.

The Nikon D3100 is a great camera for a beginner, once you learn how to use that you can upgrade and learn more as you get better equipment. If you want to check out canon I'd take a look at the T3 or the T2i. The T2i has video capability but the T3 doesn't, if you don't care about that check out the T3. The T3i is the next step up from the T2i and is comparable to the Nikon D5100 or the Sony a55.

Sony is another great brand for cameras I'd recommend checking out all three, and whichever feels best in your hands I'd go with. All are great cameras and do great professional photography and have the same accessories and everything, its really about personal preference… It's what you do with the camera, not what camera you have.

Nikon's cheaper (Under $1000) lenses are better making the Nikon a better choice. But they are both very good and you should test them out in a store and go with your preference.

Nikon is better, yes. But by the end of the year, new Nikon DSLRs will be out - along with the two just released - that makes them much better. Canon will have a lot of work to do to catch up.

The two new Nikons that have been released in 2012 are the D4 and D800. There was some unfounded criticism of the D800 when it was releases, but some reviewers are now calling it the best DSLR ever made.

It is pretty certain that a new D3200 to replace the D3100 and D400 to replace the D300s will be out before year's end.

And also there's some rumor that the D7000 replacement will also be out this year, which if true, will make the D5100 the only camera not replaced, and the oldest camera in the lineup.

The D3100 is a great choice. Both brands make great equipment.

The rumor is that mid April the D3100 will be replace by D3200.
