Which is a better beginers Digital SLR?
I have been looking at digital SLR's i'm looking to buy one. I'm stuck for choise between the Nikon D3000 and the Canon EOS 1000D. I think i'm going to go for the Nikon but i thought i would see what you think. So what do you think? (I'm 14 years old) Thanks
I always recommend what I own and know - the 1000D. I've had mine for well over a year and it's simply excellent. I know nothing about the Nikon but I read it's a good camera as well.
The choice, of course, is yours.
There really is not a big difference between the two. They are essentially the same camera with a different name, except that the canon has live view and an AF motor built in, whereas the Nikon does not. But a beginning photographer is not likely to have lenses that need the AF motor.
It is a matter of you going to a camera store, holding, and testing each one. Bring an SD card, try them out, shoot some pictures using the exact same settings on each camera, go home and see which pictures are more appealing and look better.
Nikon or Canon, it does not matter. Both are excellent and you will be happy with either.
I have the Nikon D40. The D3000 replaced the D40, and if the D3000 is anything like the D40, there's nothing to worry about.
I have been looking for new SLR too as I'm a beginning photographer as well. I heard that the Nikon d3000 was one of the worst Nikon cameras to get because there were so many things wrong with it. The Nikon D3100 is the fixed version of the same camera. It is a correct of the mistakes made with D3000
The D3000 has no Live View and no AF motor, so not all lenses will auto focus. The XS/1000D has both.

My friend has the Nikon D3000 and i have the Canon EOS 1000D. I wouldn't say there's a large difference between the two. Although I would say i prefer handling mine and i think Canon's are easier to use.
