Which Dslr is better and/or cheaper?

I'm looking at dslr cameras and have narrowed it down to the Nikon D3000 and Sony A290. Which one is cheaper? I wanna get It refurbished to save money and find it hopefully around 375 or less

I can't answer about the refurb prices, but it sounds like you are on a tight budget so I would get the Nikon because you can get a thousand used lenses on craigslist for dirt cheap.

"Brian 2009" is wrong about lenses. Due to the D3000 lacking an auto-focus motor there are more lenses available for the A290 that will auto-focus than on the D3000.It's a common misconception about Sony that you'll read all over the web.
Sony bought Minolta. Every Minolta AF lens since 1985 will work on the Sony. As will Sony, Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, CZ and others.
If you got the Nikon you would have to buy the newer lenses which have an auto-focus motor built-in. Not only that, but every lens you put on the Sony will be Image Stabilised. You will have to buy lenses for the Nikon that have BOTH auto-focus motor AND Image stabilisation. The vast majority of Nikon lenses (especially used) have neither an auto-focus motor nor Image stabilisation, so would be useless to you on the D3000.
If you want cheap, you can't beat the Sony A290 and "old" lenses off eBay.
