He says in a article that with installing Magic Lantern you have a tons of things to do with Canon…

I prefer Canon. For that budget I'd recommend the t3i.

Magic Lantern? Lots of horror stories out there about this stuff. Stories about cameras not working any longer because ML screwed up my camera's firm were and now it has to be returned to Canon to re-install the firmware - cost normally about $150.

In fact there's a disclaimer on their web site reading in effect, your camera may not work after installing this firmware.

If I were you, I wouldn't even consider such a move.

Get the cheapest out of the bunch with the kit and try to get a 50mm 1.8 lens with it for low light/indoors photography. I could also suggest the Nikon D3100.

Just a quick answer,

If you like your camera big and chunky, lots to hold on to then buy the Canon, Canon are great cameras just a bit too much camera for my small hands.

If you think you would prefer something smaller then buy the D5100, my only grumble with consumer Nikons is that they aren't really comfortable to hold… Perfect size for my small hands though.

The D3200 isn't my cup of tea, and I recently bought a D5100 because the price was very good.

As far as I know, all dSLR's were made for photography so it would be safe to buy any. Yes, any brand or model will do. They are all basically the same. They are all good.

As for video, all recent dSLR models have it but to be sure, ask the seller first.

Again, as far as I know, Magic Lantern voids your camera's warranty and I have already heard enough troubles concerning it that makes the dSLR more useless than paperweight so personally, I avoid it. Besides, I don't use Canon anyway.

Also take note that whatever review you have read and any sample pics you have seen, the final result will depend on your skill. It will be you who will determine picture quality. The camera is only a tool.

I started my DSLR journey with D5100. This has all features of professional SLR, but price is low because its DX camera (cropped photo sensor). The photo sensor is exactly same as used in higher nikon models. It does catch very vibrant colors and good entry point to start commercial photography.

Nikon 3200 has high mega pixels but its geared more towards non SLR people and photo sensor is not as good as in 5100. Not sure of canon t3i but my friends who bought t3i traded it soon with higher canon models in six months.

Also don't spend much time on deciding camera but keep your budget for good lenses. Ultimate perfection is in prime lenses. As someone said a 50mm 1.8 lens is worth buying. Considering these cameras are with cropped sensors they add 1.5x magnification. So 50mm will act like 75mm and perfect for portrait photography. I will suggest for 35mm 1.8 lens its good for all around use on a dx camera.
