Nikon SLR Cameras

Which DSLR camera? Cannon or Nikon?

I'm looking for a DSLR camera right now. I'm looking to spend in the $500 - $700 range because I don't want to make a huge investment until I get used to using one and have a better idea of the capabilities and what I really want in it. I'm between the Cannon Rebel SX and the Nikon D3000. I'm looking to take mostly family pictures. Posed pictures of my family, action shots of kids and pets, as well as scenery pictures on family vacations, things like that. Which camera would you recommend and why?

If you are willing to spend $700, look hard at the Nikon D3100.It shoots Full HD video (1080p) and is the only entry level dSLR that can auto-focus in the video mode.

Basically both cameras, the XS (1000D) and D3000 are excellent cameras. The D3100 just gives you more features.

I'm sure you know that Nikon and Canon are the companies that supply nearly 90% of the professional photographers with their cameras and lenses. This means that the technology that is in the $5, 000 pro cameras, filters down to the entry level dSLR's they make and of course whatever lenses you use, are used by both levels of camera

Before you buy, visit a camera store and hold both in your hands. You will find you prefer one over the other. Buy that one.

I'd go with the D3000, but only because I'm a Nikon man. Truth is, both of these are good entry level cameras. Both can give you great results. Best thing you can do is go to a store that sells both of them. Hold each one in your hands and see if one or the other has a better feel to it. Choose
that one.
