I want good pictures so my pictures won't be dark and blurry?

would a tripod work? Or what settings like f stop, iso and what setting on my dial on my camera, i got a nikon d3000 and my lens is a 4.5.6 ed lens and the mm is a 55 to 200

Added (1). Is 800 too high?

or should i make it lower? For the iso?

Just set your ISO to 1600 and shoot with the lens aperture wide open.

With the lens aperture wide open, you will want to shoot in the aperture priority mode.

Be sure to set your white balance to match the lighting on the runway, usually incandescent.

Other than that, shoot the models when they are under the brightest part of the runway. Using a monopod is easier than using a tripod, especially with about thirty other photographers falling all over themselves.

In order to get full length shots, you will want to use your 18-55 mm lens from time to time. This is why you see many fashion photographers shooting with two cameras, each with a different lens attached

A tripod would be essential to avoid camera shake.

I can't tell you the exact exposure settings without seeing the lighting and such, just take a few minutes to take a few sample shots before the show begins. If you have one, bring a flash (if they are allowed). Then you can avoid the blur.

Oh, and as for the setting on you camera's dial, you could try shutter speed priority (The big S), that way you don't have to worry about the aperture, just find your correct SS.

Also, try and keep your ISO as LOW AS POSSIBLE, that way you avoid grain.

I've never done something like that before, I was just guessing and saying what I would do… So listen to the expert! [The guy who answered below me]
