What nikon 50mm f 1.8 AF lens is compatible with Nikon D3000?

I bought a nikon 50 mm f 1.8 AF lens and it won't auto focus and its not letting me use the 1.8 aperture setting, so I'm assuming they are not compatible. Can someone recommend which exact lens I need for my nikon d3000? Or let me know how I can make this one I have work?

While no AF lens will autofocus on your camera, you should be able to use the f/1.8 aperture unless the lens is damaged or you are in auto mode.

Also, to control the lens aperture with your camera, you must lock the aperture at f/22.

When you buy lenses, make sure to buy AF-S lenses not AF lenses, as your camera can only autofocus AF-S lenses.

The AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G will autofocus on your camera. While the AF-S lens is a great lens, about now you should realize it is $120 more, and if you wanted to buy AF lenses, you should have bought the D7000, which will autofocus AF lenses.

The money you saved by buying the D3000 vs. The D7000 (or D90 in those days the D3000 was for sale) will quickly be eaten up when you start buying AF-S lenses vs.AF lenses.

If you are considering buying any AF lens, the D3xxx or D5xxx cameras will not autofocus as they are both entry-level cameras and lack an autofocus motor (which AF lenses require).

Only the more expensive AF-S 50mm f1.8G lens will auto focus on your D3000. The AF 50mm f1.8 should function just fine except for not auto focusing.

The lens you're referring to is the 50mm 1.8"D" lens, but it won't auto focus on that camera. You'll want to get the 50mm 1.8"G" lens, and it's fantastic.
