Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Nikkor AF Lens compatible with Nikon D5100?
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Nikkor AF Lens compatible with Nikon D5100?
Yes if you do not mind manually focusing when using it
Your D5100 uses AF-S lenses like the Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.8 (the G type)
Yes, but the G gives you the autofocus the D won't.
That lens won't auto-focus, but when you manually focus you can still get the focus confirmation dot to come on in the viewfinder when the subject is in focus. You need AF-S lenses to autofocus on the D5100.
The 50mm lens used to be considered the "standard" fixed focal lens back in 35mm days. For a DX camera like your D5100, I would recommend considering the 35mm f1.8 G AF-S DX lens instead:

That 35mm lens will give a similar angle of view that a 50mm would have given on a 35mm film or a full-frame digital camera and that will correctly autofocus with your D5100.
The 35mm lens is very small, light and gives great results. Look at the Amazon reviews. Out of 90 reviews there are no 1-star or 2-star reviews and only 3 3-star reviews - and one of those was just whingeing about the price back when it was more expensive!
It will work, except for autofocus.
Yes, the Nikon AF 50mm f1.8D is compatible with your Nikon D5100 except that it won't auto focus. For auto focus you'll need the Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8G.
It will fit and it will mount without problems. It will not autofocus though. Get the AF-S version.
