I'm a beginner and i'm thinking about the nikon d40 camera
i'm pretty new to all of the stuff that you need for it, so I'm just wondering if anyone out there know what i'm talking about.
ex.camera body, lens, filters, what else?

Well I don't have any experience with Nikon cameras but i'll help as much as I can.

Have you already considered what type of lens you need? If not, think about what you're going to be using your camera for: Sports, wild life, architecture, still life?

As always, using a UV filter is a great way to protect the front element of your shiny new lens. Just make sure the UV filter you buy is double-coated. Filters with just a single coating can degrade image quality.

Make sure that you buy an extra battery for your camera too. There's nothing worse then shooting at an event and having a battery die on you without one to replace it.

You'll also need an SD card to go along with your camera. 8GB cards are a good size to start with, if you're going to be shooting mostly in JPG then you don't need to worry about getting a bigger card. One thing always overlooked by many is the speed of the card. A good fast card will insure quick transfer from the camera to the card and from the card to your computer. I suggest getting an 8GB class 6 SD card. Cards made by Sandisk are always top notch and won't cost you a fortune.

Also consider buying a tripod to go along with your camera. Since you're going to be using a small and light camera, a big heavy duty tripod would be overkill. Look into tripods made my Manfroto. Manfrotos are the best value for your money.

Again, this is just a rough answer. As I don't know what your budget is like and what you plan to use your camera for mostly. Hope I helped!
