What are the BEST COMPACT DIGITAL CAMERAS out there?

I need a compact digital camera, as I currently only own a Nikon D3000 DSLR, which is a great camera, but its not convenient for taking around everywhere with me.
I have no budget, and I'd like an all round good camera which has
-decent battery life
-good features on the camera
-produces clear, crisp images (good lens quality)
-consistant in the quality of the images (does not blur easily + works in all conditions e.g dark, light, indoors, outdoors etc)
please give me some good suggestions, tried and tested if possible!

Fiji S1800. Lots of zoom, has aperture/shutter priority. Very few point and shoots do well in dim light. The ones that do run about $450- to $500-.

Fujifilm X1, if you can afford it. Its a rangefinder style camera with a prime 23mm f/2 lens with full manual controls and with a huge, gargantuan sensor for a point and shoot.

$1200
now you can also get the Leica X1 for $2000, but the fuji is a tad better.
if you don't want to spend that much, look at the Canon S95, Nikon P7000, Canon G12, or Nikon P300

Those from the Sony Cybershot lineup.
You know what's difficult with giving the exact model? It's like this. My wife has a Sony Cybershot S980. She loves it. Her friends can't believe she didn't use a dSLR when they see her pictures. I love it too. I can tweak it around to get the shot I want if I don't feel like carrying my bulky dSLR. Her camera is old, gotten at least two, three (or even more) years ago, no longer in production. Whatever new model is out there, I haven't tried because there's no sense buying a new one when the old one is already perfect. All I can assure you is that Sony makes cameras that are great.
