Okay. So I'm super hyped about getting a new camera! I just recently became interested in photography! Does anyone know the difference between the D3100 and D5100? I have the urge to wanting to get the D5100 but if there's not a big difference in them I might just want to go with the D3100! And I know there's around a $200 price difference between them. I just need pros's and con's of both camera's! All answer's help!

The D5100 has many advantages. This tool lists them.

You do know that both of these cameras have newer models, right? The D5200 and D3200.

The D5100 has some nice useful features and if you can afford the extra $$, i'd say go for it

And yes it is more expensive, costing an extra $150 at B&H,

Does it mean image quality will be better, not really noticeable mostly

They are both entry level DSLRs. While the D5100 has a few more "trinkets", there are no significant improvements over the D3100. Entry level means entry level.

With the D5100 you get an articulated LCD screen (which more people dislike rather than like), 2 photo HDR, and a few other options.

But the shutter delay for both are in the 0.2~0.3 sec range, clearly entry level territory. And neither can autofocus AF lenses, neither can do high speed FP sync or CLS remote command mode, and so on.

So with the D5100, you are just getting a D3100 with a little bit of fluff. I would make my decision either the D3100 or D7100 - skipping the D5100 completely. If you find the D3100 is sufficient, spend the extra money on a better lens.
