Sun photography.what to use to protect the camera?

So i came by a nikon d70 and a 1600mm scope lens for it. I wanna use it to photograph the sun but how do i do it without damaging the sensor and everything else?

i'm a bit confused in my research.i've read using neutral density filter of at least 10 is enough to protect my camera. But i've also read and doesn't protect at all and need the special the special solar filter like mylar. I checked prices on them and the solar ones cost a lot more.

so if you have done either one of these techniques, i wanna know which one does not damage your camera. I don't care for what you think or read about it, i wanna know what you -did-. If you have photographed the sun before i like to see your samples if that's not too much to ask

DON'T use an and filter, Sun filters need to be able to take the heat, there are Mylar Sun filters available mainly from astronomy outlets. They're not expensive, but they are thin coated Mylar and can be easily damaged so need care in their use. Used properly you are very safe.

It's not the camera you need to be worried about it's your eyes. Normal photography with the Sun in shot is not a problem, but as soon as you start pointing long lenses at it you are concentrating the Sun's energy and the danger increases dramatically.

The problem arises because there are no pain receptors in the eyes, so you can be permanently damaging your eye (to the point of blinding yourself) and not even feel it, it can happen in seconds. The problem is less with photographic lenses than it is with telescopes, but the danger is still there.

Please be careful. Sun photography is a specialist's field.

I use Baader film on my telescope… As Chris says, You can't muck about with the sun especially through a long lens or telescope… One glimpse can permanently blind you.

Baader film is the cheapest way to ensure you are safe… Http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baader-Astro-Solar-Film-Sheet/dp/B004SN02TO
