The advantage of Nikon is the number of lens models to select from. Sony has a much smaller lens lineup but it includes some Carl Zeiss lenses which are more than exceptional.

You are going to have to visit a camera store and hold both in your hands.

The D90 is a much more traditional camera backed by a company who has been making professional cameras since 1959. Sony, new to making still cameras (2005) has yet to make a professional camera

Nikon D3100 or Nikon D7000 depending on your budget. D90 is cool but is slightly outdated.
My second brand choice will be Canon and Olympus. Sony is not too good with DSLRs.

You can buy Nikon D90.

The D90 boasts a genuine innovation: It is the world's first digital SLR in the middle class with movie
function (D-Movie) HD resolution and opened for the first time the possibility of creative filming with a D-SLR and in the outstanding picture quality.

The D90 has a pentaprism viewfinder that provides a frame coverage of almost 96%.In situations in which the view through the viewfinder does not help, press the Live View button on the D90, and you've got Live View.
