Should I upgrade my Nikon D3000 to a Nikon D5100?

I currently own the Nikon D3000. I'm considering upgrading to a Nikon D5100. The D5100 has additional features I would like plus I'm looking for a video camera too (not for anything big just video taping my child). What does everyone think about the difference of these two cameras? Is worth the upgrade?

Might I add I have someone that is willing to purchase my old camera.

You have valid reasons to replace your camera. Lucky is the one who receives your D3000.

If you have got someone to take your d3000 and you can use the extra features, go ahead. Otherwise, there isn't much wrong with the d3000.
It is capable of stunning pictures when used correctly.

In my view, the D5100 is not enough of a step up from your D3000. Sure the sensor has a higher megapixel count, and it will do video, but not much else.

If it were me, I'd want to step up to a D7000 as that gives you many more features, such as ability to focus all Nikon AF lenses, ability to control speedlights remotely, and many more things.

Upgrading to a D5100 still keeps you in the entry-level camera range with a limited feature set.
