Should I Take My Nikon D3100 To Maui with Me?

Ok so I'm pretty conflicted right now. I Really want to take my D3100 with me to Maui, but don't want to have to worry about keeping in my sight and clean. I guess I could take some places and leave it in my Condo when I don't need it. But I don't want to miss an amazing. Or take it on the airplane. Have you guys had a similar situation? What lense did you take? Was it worth it?

Years ago I took my Canon EOS 50D 35mm with me to Oahu. Didn't regret it one bit. Since SLRs are a bit bulky, make sure you have something to carry it so it isn't around your neck or in your hands all of the time--a backpack is great. I just used a 28-80mm lens, which is basically the same range as the 18-55mm kit lens that came with your camera Perfect for 90% of what you would ever want to shoot.

Did you buy your camera to use it or to make it a museum piece?

I've taken my DSLR to hawaii on two separate occasions. Except for the days I went to the beach, I took my DSLR with me and got some great shots of various things.
it is completely up to you
as for airplane, I have taken a Nikon D300, 18-200mm, 100mm f/2.8, 11-16 f/2.8, 35mm f/1.8, Nikon D40, 18-55mm, and 55-200mm bodies and lenses to India, a 28 hour journey all in the cabin.
surely you can take a D3100 and a lens on a plane. Just keep it with you at all times and never lose sight of it.

Take it just don't get it wet or put it down on the sand. Keep it raised all the time. The 18-55mm lens is enough for almost everything. If you want something to appear nearer, walk towards it.
