Should I switch to nikon?

Currently i have a Canon 1100D (Rebel t3). I have a couple hundred dollars saved up and i was contemplating on whether selling my Canon and my three lenses (75-300, 18-55 kit lens, and an old 35-80) and going towards Nikon (maybe a d7000?).

If i could choose my lenses, they would be a 35mm f1.8. And a 55-300 f4.5.

What do you hope to gain by switching from one brand to another?

Canon is far better at keeping things under-wraps than Nikon & Sony, but frankly it must have a replacement for the 7D in the wings. I really would wait.

*with the collusion that appears to be going on between Nikon and Sony it's getting tempting to refer to Nikon/Sony as a single entity.

No I don't think you should switch. You get much more from owning a canon considering you already have lenses for it. Depending on the cameras you compare I have noticed that I usually prefer Canon pictures over Nikon. I took a look at photos and at the end it told me what cameras took it. AND Canon does a LOT better than Nikon when it comes to video and audio.

The D7000 is a very fine camera but a platform change is always expensive. See if you can determine what the 1100d isn't doing for you and why a 60D is no option

The argument of Nikon vs Canon is absurd. Having owned and shot both, I believe Nikon currently has the edge, but neither one will make you a better photographer. It really comes down to individual bodies and lenses. Unless you are purchasing professional level glass I would not worry about it.

Canon's 70-300 is fine. The 70-200 F4L is relatively affordable and better than anything Nikon has at that price point. Nikon's f2.8 zooms are better than Canon at present.

The comment that one takes better pictures than other is stupid. It is true that the out of camera jpeg's have different colors (e.g.nikon runs warmer than Canon), but majority of good photographers are processing their own raw photographs.

That said, the Rebel t3 is a fine camera. If I were you, I would sell the 75-300, pick up the 70-200 F4L (non-IS). You'll notice a more significant change in quality than a body change.
It runs $600 at KEH which is a reputable used camera dealer.

Only if you're stupid.

While the 75-300 isn't too good, any problems you have are probably down to you, rather than the camera - and will still be there however much you spend.

I shoot Nikon and I suggest you not switch. What you really need are better lenses.
