Should I switch from Nikon to Canon? - 1

After months of choosing and deciding, I got the Nikon D5100 in early November. As great as it is, I kind of wish I had gotten the Canon Rebel T2i. The Nikon was a birthday gift from my dad, and don't take me wrong, I'm very grateful that he got it for me, but I'm just not really liking the button layout on it. Should I sell my Nikon D5100 (along with a few lenses I got for it with my own money) and get the Canon T2i, or would that be wrong?

That is the number one reason I ALWAYS recommend going to an actual camera shop and trying the various brands AND models out before buying one.

Both Canon and Nikon make nice cameras. BUT… I bought a Canon for its ergonomics/feel/menu and control layout and a fellow photog chose Nikon for the same reason… It is all about about personal preference. If you have a camera that doesn't feel right in YOUR hands, you will miss shots due to fumbling with the camera.

The bad part about switching brands is that you will only get about 75-80% of the value of the one you sell.

If you have a working camera and lenses, I'd suggest getting used to the one you've got.

Your Nikon is a nice piece of kit, and a bit of practice'll probably deal with most of the problems you're having.

Be happy with what you have. The Canon won't be any better

Not too much of a difference unless you're doing some important professional stuff.nikon's are stylized, canon's are almost like blank canvases and you get to determine more what the product of your image is.

You'll be selling it cheaper and buying an almost exactly same camera for slightly higher price. I see no reason, Canon and Nikon are almost same. You won't feel a lot of difference, it's just like switching from Honda to Toyota, Coke to Pepsi, HP to Dell…

No no no no, Nikon d5100 is AWESOME

Nikon d5100 has better photo quality, better low light capabilities, more autofocus points, longer battery life per charge, has autofocus in video mode unlike canon, has built in HDR mode.

the ONLY 2 reasons i would consider t2i is because i has 60 fps video mode for slow motion. And built in focus motor.

so unless you Really need those 2 reasons, Don't Switch.
