Problem with Nikon D5000?

I've had this camera for less than a year. It's been working fine, but now I can't get it to autofocus. Anyone know what to do?

If the AF problem is with your kit lens, then it's a lens issue. Your camera doesn't have a built-in AF motor. If you have bought another Nikon lens that isn't AFing, then you should check whether that lens has its own AF motor.

If it's the kit lens, firstly clean the electric contacts on the lens. If that doesn't work, try another self-driven lens, if that doesn't work, then send your camera off with the lens to Nikon.

Two common possibilities:
1. Be sure the switch on the side of the lens is set to Auto Focus (A or M/A). If it's set to manual, the camera won't autofocus.

2. Nikon kit lenses have electrical contact issues. Gently rotating the lens mount back and forth (like you're trying to remove the lens) is generally enough to clean the contacts.
