Problem with Nikon D5000 auto-focus?
I went to use my Nikon D5000 today, and it would not auto-focus. For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out. I went through all of the camera settings to make sure there was nothing there that would cause this, and made sure the lens itself was set to auto. Everything is as it should be but the camera still won't auto-focus. I tried all of my lenses and have the same problem with all of them.
It will take pictures just fine, either blurry or with the manual focusing.
Any suggestions? Any ideas as to what could have caused this?
See page 54 in your manual. Be sure your menu setting isn't set to MF. It should be set to AF-A.
You can also try reset the camera (page 78).
Else, your camera may need repair.
There are many ways to put your camera into the manual focus mode. Used two, today.
There are other reasons you camera will not focus as well, including not allowing you to take a shot.
It the camera is out of focus, no shot
If the exposure is out of range of the shutter speed and will overexpose your shot (in any of the auto modes), no shot
If you forgot to put a memory card in your camera, no shot
If your card is full, no shot
If your cameras buffer gets full, no shot
My autofocus wouldn't work and I tried everything I read to check for "user error". Nothing helped. I was looking at havingg to send my camera off for repair. Then I read the comment here by qrk and reset my camera and now the autofocus is working fine. Thanks qrk!
