Wow, a Nikon D3100? Incredible!
When I started out I got a Nikon D40, but congrats!

The editing program that I use is Photoshop CS3. I don't like older/newer versions for several reasons, but the CS3 version is just perfect for me. I use it to create DIV/Overlay layouts for Myspace cilents. I make animation banners. I make GIFS. Photoshop is just great! But it's up to you which editing program suits you well for your photographyt, but Photoshop is an amazing program. Hope it helps!

Just for now why don't you concentrate on getting good images right in camera - the more you do that, the less post processing they'll require.

Photoshop is good, but it can't rescue a poor image.

If you are a full-time student in education you can purchase the Student Edition of Adobe Photoshop CS5 for 20% of the full value. It's a really good editing program and the industry standard.

I would of course highly recommend Photoshop CS5, it is what the professionals use, but if your budget can't afford it GIMP is also a good alternative.

The only thing with these programs is it takes time to learn, if you want an easy program def go for Photoshop Elements it gives you relatively the same outcome for less price and its easy to use.
