How long do I have to charge a new Camera battery?

My dad just bought a Nikon D5100 today… And I tried it for a few after I charged it full. Apparently, my dad said I had to charge it for 10 hours. What up with that? Won't that just burst the lithium out of the battery? I have experience before, I had a LG phone that I over-charged too much and the lithium ion battery swelled for months and eventually exploded.

Please… I just don't understand why people keep saying that I have to charge this new thing for 3 times the average recharge rate of a certain item when it's newly bought.

Preview of pictures on my Windows 7 computer (new camera pictures)?

I recently purchased a Nikon d40x camera and when I uploaded the pictures there's no preview! I can double click on the picture and show up, but the thumbnail does not show. I have done so much research trying to fix the problem. Do I have to install a driver or something? I'm clueless.

Thanks for your help!

Added (1). Thanks for the replies so far! The only problem I have ran into was this: I was reading about how Nikon is not making a RAW-NEF codec for windows 7 -64 bit operating system. Have any of you heard of this?

What effect does a professional, fast CF memory card have on Nikon D70s?

I have a nikon d70s and I was wondering what a fast memory card can do. Right now I've got a lexar platinum II 80x so what would the platinum II 200x do better or the professional 400x? What are the advantages of having a faster memory card? In July I might be shooting on the sideline of a Indy Fever game and want my camera as fast as possible. Other suggestions welcomed.

Is it me or do canon dslrs produce prettier photos compared to nikon?

I don't really know what other word to use but i took a pic with a canon rebel t3i and a nikon d5100 and even though nikon has a better sensor the canon made the picture look more appealing and dark in the right spots while nikon made it look slightly washed out. I know prettiers not a good word to compare pictures but i want your opinion. I knoww its also the photographer but for just the camera which in the end has a more appealing look in photos

Can I change the camera even if it is a different brand?

I bought a Nikon D90 about 5 months ago on BestBuy and I purchased a one year guarantee with it in case something happens to it. My camera is now broken and when I bought the guarantee they told me that if something happens to it, they could give me a new one. The thing is, can I change it for a Canon 60D or do I have to change it for the same camera.

Seeking advice about my damaged nikon d7000?

My camera took a little tumble earlier this month - the photo review button is now jammed in and is effecting the operation of the camera (Can still take photos). I can't dislodge it myself so I sent it away for a quote, it came back at £400. I'm tempted to just get it back here and sell it on ebay listed as broken, I reckon I'd still get more than the repair costs for it. They say this cost covers the parts needed, but I'm having a tough time justifying spending almost half its worth.

Is this price too steep? Could I do better elsewhere?
