Nikon SLR Cameras

Seeking advice about my damaged nikon d7000?

My camera took a little tumble earlier this month - the photo review button is now jammed in and is effecting the operation of the camera (Can still take photos). I can't dislodge it myself so I sent it away for a quote, it came back at £400. I'm tempted to just get it back here and sell it on ebay listed as broken, I reckon I'd still get more than the repair costs for it. They say this cost covers the parts needed, but I'm having a tough time justifying spending almost half its worth.

Is this price too steep? Could I do better elsewhere?

Did you send it to Nikon? If so, at least you know it will be done correctly without being overcharged. Just for a CLA (cleaning/lubrication/timing adjustment) for my DSLR is £112.

It sounds reasonable… You probably broke a controller board and a mounting post (who knows what that could be part of). The other things you are not considering is the labor time (probably around £50/hour) and timing/calibration (and possibly cleaning if needed).

Cameras always have and always will be fragile instruments. That is why it is highly recommended that you properly use the neck strap anytime the camera is not in its padded case.

Id say the price is way too steep. Nikon (and overcharge anything that is not a cleaning. Take it to a mom and pop camera store. Is it the play button, the 4 way arrow pad, or a mode dial that is stuck? Mine get stuck when dirt gets in it (I shoot moto). When I get dirt in mine I use an aerosol can and a business card to get the dirt out… My gear works fine too…
