I want to be a photographer but have no guidance or expire nice. I would be shooting in ohio at old steel mills and parks. Price range is low at $300 and want a DSLR. Would the D3000 be good for me?

How to properly expose my camera?
Ok so I'm a hobby enthusiast photographer. I currently am set up with a basic d5100 nikon camera with a variety of lenses from a 35mm prime to a 300mm zoom. I'm pretty familiar with its features but I have one type of shot I'm struggling with. If I have a subject with the sun behind them how can I properly expose the picture. I've seen photos taken where the sun looks nice and reasonably clear and yet the subject is well lit and the foreground looks great. Like for a senior picture. I either get the sky properly exposed and the subject is in the dark or the subject looks great and the sky is way over exposed. So how do I get the perfect blend. I have in camera HDR but even that doesn't cut it. Is it basically post photo shoot editing? Photoshop with overlay? Or is it later in the day and the subject is lit with speed lights to help keep everything bright? It's a shot people pull off I can't seem to get. I tried to get a horse in a shot. The grass was golden and lit by the sun. The horse looked great. But when I took the shot the sky was white and over exposed. So I readjusted and got the sky but the horse was in the dark. Thanks for any help. I shoot in RAW format on manual settings.

What Would Be A Decently Priced Lens For Nikon D7000 To Take Action Photographs?
Can someone give me some advice on lenses for the Nikon D7000 to capture a sharp subject in motion whilst the background is blurry. Looking for something reasonably priced (Entry Level) but please also list the more expensive kind.

How to work around no HSS on Nikon d3100?
I'm using the Nikon D3100 with an SB-400 speedlight and want to use an f/4 with a shutter speed faster than 1/200 outdoors to have the flash overpower the sun. I know the d3100 does not have HSS. Is there any workaround for this? I know I could close the aperture a little but I want a shallow depth of field.

Photography ideas/inspiration?
I need some ideas for pictures for my art project! All I have is me, myself and my room. I'm using a Nikon D3100 for this.
Just random ideas that I could do in my room, like a picture of my lips (already did that) or my hands (but how?) and maybe some examples would be awesome! Anything, I just need inspiration!

Nikon D40 Turns off when I take a picture
Just got a new Nikon D40 and am wondering why everytime I try to take a picture it turns off, its getting really annoying! It will also say "sorry not enough light" I know that is something pretty much a 5 year old could explain, but even when I try to get to extra light, it still doesn't take the picture.

Canon Eos Rebel T3 or Nikon D5100?
What has the better quality picture and which one is the better buy? Which company is better? Please help. I want to get into photography and I want a camera that takes pretty good pictures.

Nikon D40 18-55 mm lens won't focus?
I recently bought a Nikon D40 that comes with the 18-55 mm lens. I know its not the BEST lens in the world, its AT BEST, standard. But when I see AMAZING photos that people take with the same camera and LENS that I have, I get agitated when mine doesn't perform the same way. What settings can I use to make my camera perform the way it I KNOW it can, Can anyone please explain to me the best settings for the Nikon, I'm a HUGE noob/beginner with these SLR cameras, but I've heard great things about this camera so I HAD to have it. Please let me know what I can do to ALSO take portrait photos like the ones I'm supposed to get. Please and Thanks!

I shot this image with a Nikon d3200 at 1/200th, ISO 100, f/6.3 with a 55-200mm lens, and am looking for some critique. Post processing (bumped up the colors a bit) was done in Lightroom 4. I've been trying to shoot some stuff related to patterns/rhythm/repetition lately.

How to film low-angles without vari angle screen?
I film skateboarding with a Nikon D3200. When I do low angles to film lines of the skater, I can't see the screen, so I can't check my focus, and to see if the skater is in the frame. I started to make a DIY monitor but I realized it's too many 12v battery packs and rca to hdmi converters. Tips please!
