We're going to Peru for one month. My current camera is dated and need a camera that will point and shoot; one that is very easy to use; one that captures action shots; and one that captures nature nicely. Did research on the above and this one looks good.

The D3100 is one of the best entry level cameras available. You can leave it on auto and the camera will do all the work.

I just got it last month and I love it. You can leave it on auto, or you can use one of the settings, there are like six which include landscape, action shots, closeups for flowers, plants and bugs (if closeups of bugs are your thing, LOL), portraits, and even if you go to like an amusement park or fair at night, there's a setting for taking pictures in that kind of lighting. There's even a setting for taking pictures of children while they're playing. I really like this camera a lot. It's really easy to use. It even has a built-in manual and guide and you can use either the viewfinder or the screen to take your pictures. I'm definitely happy with this camera.

I took my time experimenting with the camera around the house. I took a closeup shot of my African Violet plant. The color of the purple flowers are so vivid and clear and I can even count the little hairs on the fuzzy-like leaves of the plant.

I think you won't go wrong with this camera.

Nikon D3100 is one of the best models for the price right now. It's light, small, has great quality and video as well.

It doesn't capture nature nicely because it doesn't know what it's shooting. You could shoot pancakes in low light, it all depends on the settings.

It'll be great, and the 18-55mm kit lens will be fine for all around photography, though something like 18-105mm could get you closer to certain stuff.
