Opinion of the nikon d3100?

The D3100 is a great camera. THe D3200 was just released a few weeks ago.

One of the best entry level cameras available.

I turns out it is a rather amazing camera for its cost.
For those who think a fully adjustable camera should be just that, the D3100 comes with a lot of carryover "features" which used to only be found on advanced P&S cameras. This lone, as a new buyer, takes the time to learn some traditional photographic skills.
This could be a great camera for someone just getting their feet wet from a fully automated P&S to a dSLR with the potential of allowing the user to gain the skills necessary to take control control of their resulting photographs. Having the option of shooting in full manual, will reduce the dependence upon trying to fix things later in post production. This can become a huge time saver. MOST photographers prefer to spend their time taking the photographs, NOT doing retouching.

One thing I would miss with the 3100 is the infrared sensor that allows use of a remote shutter control. My D40 has it, I'm pretty sure the 3000 has it as does the 3200, can't figure out why they left it off of the 3100.
