It's a good camera. Any entry level slr has the potential to take fantastic photos.
I've owned this camera for a little over a year.
It's a complete pile of ***; don't buy it. I couldn't me more unsatisfied.
The picture quality is horrible, the battery life sucks. It's an unresponsive, defective pile of ***.
Adam, I bought the camera new. It's terrrible, the customer support is horrible. I don't know if my camera is just defective or not but Nikon won't answer my emails and when I try to call customer support they leave me on hold forever. Literally.
It's a fine starter camera, perhaps the best on the market. That Franklin has no clue what he's talking about.
I borrowed one and put a 100 pics trough it to see what it was like and I was amazed at the amount of camera you get for that price.
One of the best entry level cameras out there. It can take great photos if you take the time to learn how to use it.
Poor photos are usually the result of a poor photographer.
The D3100 is a great camera to start out with. But before spending 600 bucks on a camera, go to your local library and read some basic photography books - they will help you to use your camera to it's fullest potential…
The D3100 is the best price/performance model out right now. Ignore people who say it's bad, they don't know how to use it. All DSLRs are great.
