Olympus omd-em5 or Sony nex-7?

I'm a student going off to college next year and i want to get a camera between a point and shoot, and a DSLR. I've heard good reviews for both cameras but i'm not sure which one to get. I've a Nikon D5000 for 3 years, and it is too bulky for daily use or to fit inside my bag. My main push factors will be: convenience, image quality, weight, and good quality. I don't really look at lens range or too much technical stuff. Which would you recommend?

Of those two the Oly will be the smallest and the easiest to take with you
It is a Micro Four Third camera so the lenses will be smaller then the Nex ones. Why? The Nex has an APS-C sized sensor this also means the lenses are bigger.
So if you say that the D5000 is to big then a Nex.well the Nex body is smaller but the lenses. Are equal sized!
That leaves the Oly, at least there the lenses are smaller. MFT is about as small as I would go right now. Quality wise that is.
You being a student, size and weight matters so yeah go for the Oly!

This tool rates the Sony Nex-7 higher.

Convenience: the Sony is lighter and thinner.
The Sony image quality will be better because of the larger sensor. BTW, the lenses are quite small.
I would say that both have good quality.
I recommended the Sony NEX-5 for my daughter-in-law over a year ago. She remains quite pleased with it.
