What are you thoughts on the new Olympus OMD?
And do you think it would be a good camera for street photography?
Added (1). E-M10
Photo artists who shoot street photography use a small camera like a Leica M series rangefinder with 35 mm lens.
They shoot literally from the hip so that those on the street do not know there are photographs being taken.
Street photos are unique in that they capture any street in situ. That usually means that the subjects do NOT know they are being photographed. Usually if a subject on the street sees a camera aimed at them, they do one of three things. 1) pose for the camera, 2) turn away from the camera or 3) get angry and approach the person with the camera usually cussing a "blue streak" None of these situations will provide you with brilliant street photography
If I were going to buy a digital camera to use shooting street scenes, I would pick one like the following
* Ricoh GR
* Nikon Coolpix A
* Fujifilm X100S
* Sigma DP1x or DP1s
Each have APS-C sensors, a prime, fixed wide angle lens and can be manually prefocused to assure the depth of field needed when shooting street photography from the hip.
EDIT:
Cameras are tools. No single tool can build anything, whether it is a race car, cabin in the woods or a portfolio of brilliant photographs. You have to have all the necessary tools as well as necessary skills.
Just owning a $35,000 Snap-On tool box does NOT make you a master mechanic
I wouldn't buy one myself, because it only has an electronic view finder. Sorry, but I prefer to use a camera, with an optical viewfinder - such as a DSLR.
