Nikon D90 (How long can I record my video clips in HD)?
I would like to know if it's worth it to purchase a Nikon D90 Camera and record videos on it. And would it be possible to increase my video recordings to HD 30min to 1hr…
I recently answered a different Y! A Question regarding the video capabilities of the D90, and came across a technical review of the video-only features. It said that in HD mode, due to European tariff restrictions between "cameras" and "camcorders", the Nikon DSLR's are "crippled" with a 5-minute limit on video recording time. Also, the "Live View" mode is limited to around 30 minutes of continuous operation to prevent CMOS sensor and electronics overheating.
DSLR's, in general, (even with their larger-format sensors allowing more "depth of field") are not the best choice, if what you mainly desire is long video recording.
Unless you already have a large investment in Nikon lenses from other cameras, you can make a better (and cheaper) choice for taping videos.
hope this helps,
