Is it worth 500 more dollars to get the D7000 vs.a D5000 or D90? They seem to run pretty similar and all have their pros and cons. Any suggestions?

Well it depends

The D7000 is the latest and greatest offering from Nikon and it is very impressive. It is technical very impressive and the image quality rivals cameras costing $2000 and up. If you are wanting the very best of the ones mentioned, then get the D7000

The D90 is Nikon's most popular semi professional model. It is a great camera for those who want a lot of advanced features and professional level build at a reasonable cost. While still an excellent camera, it has been passed by in technical ability. It would be best for a student or someone who needs a second body for professional work.

The D5000 is a well spec'd entry level camera. It has all the features and performance necessary for 90% of photographic situations. It is a great introduction into the Nikon system and best for those just starting out in the world of photography.

Personally if it was me right now and Nikon was my system choice, I would pick

The D3100 if I was an amateur

The D7000 if I was an Advanced Enthusiast/Professional

They are both very impressive and are worth extra $ spent on them.

D5000 has no AF motor, so not all lenses will auto focus.

D7000 at such a high price is too much for a beginner. Get the D90, it was awesome when it came out and still is. They all have same image quality, 4.5fps is very fast and they all are very good at high ISO.
