That is pretty much how it goes. The D7000 is the D90's replacement.

It looks like it to me. I'm guessing they won't include a focus motor in anything for less $, making the D7000 their lowest-priced enthusiast camera once the D90s are gone. They're not officially replacing it, but the D90 has run its course given the recent additions to the lineup. Still a great camera, though - the F80 of Digital SLRs.
