I'm looking to buy a Nikon D7000 16.2MP DSLR Camera with AF-S DX 18-105mm VR Lens Kit and AF-S VR Zoom 70-300mm Zoom Lens.

I'm new to Dslr cameras. Is this a good camera? I will take mostly pictures of my family and friends and some landscape will these two lens help me to take good pictures.

Also let me know if it is good camera to invest.

It's an excellent camera.

I'd recommend that you only buy it with the kit lens though. That 70-300mm lens is a telephoto lens, it's good for zooming in on distant things (but not good for making small things appear big). Based on your description that's not something that you'll be making lots of use of, and there's no point in buying that lens if it's going to end up gathering dust on your shelf. Stick to the kit lens and find out what you may or may not find lacking about it. Then, in half a year, with some experience under your belt, buy the lens that you really need. That may turn out to be a fast prime lens such as a 50mm/1.8 or 50mm/1.4 (excellent for low light situations and portraits, especially indoor portraits without flash) or an ultra wide angle lens such as the Nikkor 10-24mm for landscape photography.

The D7000 would undoubtedly be a good camera. For portraits and landscapes, you only need the 18-55mm kit zoom lens. If you plan to get a 70-300mm, it would be better if your other lens would be the 18-55mm kit lens. The shorter the zoom range of the lens, the better it is optically.

It's a fine camera but in your list of things you want to. Do I read nothing that would necessitate the 70-300.
A digital camera is never a good investment. When you open the box it starts to loose value.

It is certainly a good choice; I like
