Nikon d5100s image quality?
Does it have just as good image quality as the nikon d7000
is it a good starter camera?
The sensor quality of the D5100 is so close to the D7000 as to be nonexistent
Take a look
The image quality depends on the lens(es) your purchase for it.

The best starter camera is a used view camera because you will learn how to control the camera.
Agree with fhotoace… And I recommend the D3200
You won't notice the difference between the two.
But if you want a starter camera, buy the D3200 as it is cheaper. If you want a camera with more capability, go with the D7000.
The D5100 is more expensive than the D3200, but is still an entry level camera and will not have many more features than the D3200.
