Nikon d5100 with nikkor AF-S DX 55-300mm Lens is ok for wild life?

300 mm lenses are the most economical lens lengths for shooting wildlife. The 55-300 mm should work just fine or if you have a little extra money, the AF-S 70-300 mm may give you better image quality
If you really get into it and get some cash flow, then you will want a couple of prime lenses like the Nikkor 300 mm f/2.8 ($5, 900) or Nikkor 400 mm f/2.8 ($9, 550)
The D5100 or D3200 are excellent cameras and can produce brilliant image if you are up to the task and have some fundamental photographic skills.
