Nikon D5100 Camera Dropped, not turning on, no power?
All the time I used this camera with care and use Strap when ever I took photos, but unfortunately one day while lifting the Camera Bag it just dropped in the ground as the Bag belt wan not strapped properly.
Now when I try to switch it on it does not work. No power. I took the battery off and recharged it and put it back still it does not work. LCD is also NOT coming up.
I tried to take picture from view finder does not work. I bought this camera just couple of months back. I don't think it will be cover under warranty. Not sure sure what to do, please help.
You have no choice but to contact Nikon.
DSLRs are virtually computers with lenses and the fall could've dislodged or damaged any number of components.
You have no choice. Go back to the store you bought the camera from and ask for service. You will have to pay. Warranty does not cover product abuse.
You are correct… This is not covered under warranty.
The best thing to do is call Nikon at 1-800-NIKON-UX (1-800-645-6689) and explain the situation to them and request a repair estimate. They will give you instructions on shipping the camera to them (don't forget to remove/keep the memory card and battery) and they will contact you with the repair cost.
Then it is up to you on how it is handled (either repaired or sent back to you unrepaired). If the repair cost is too much, you could always ask if it can be traded in on a refurbished model.
EDIT: Do not take the camera back to the store you bought it from UNLESS it is also a Nikon Authorized Service Center. All a regular store (bestbuy/walmart/etcetera) will do is play "middleman" for you and that often delays everything for several weeks or more.
For example, if you call Nikon and send the camera in yourself, the normal turn around time is 2-3 weeks. If you let a store handle it, it may take them a week or more just to contact Nikon and ship it out. Then the store would contact you with the estimate and then they have to contact Nikon again.
