Nikon D5000 Is there a way to get rid of the picture info (the info on the bottom of the picture), while viewing the photos on the camera?

This is something you will learn in your owner's manual. I have found that the PDF version is easier to use because it's searchable and it really beats turning pages. You can download it for free from Nikon.

On my D300 you just use the multifunction button next to the monitor. Push the 12:00 or 6:00 to toggle through the various display modes.
