Nikon D40x with no built-in focus drive motor work with my older Sigma lens?

I'm getting a used Nikon D40x from my sister. Will my older Sigma lens work since D40x can auto focus only with lenses that have their own drive motor? I used my Sigma lens with my Nikon F4 several years ago. It's a Sigma zoom, Aspherical 20-80mm, 1:3.5-5.6 macro. How do I know if it has its own drive motor?

You won't have any metering with that lens.

Most likely not. Only Sigma lenses with a HSM motor will autofocous with the D40x.

Well, that's a first I heard of using a cheap lens like that on a f4.
It doesn't have a motor, if it does there's hsm in gold on it somewhere. IF it was the AF version of the lens it will meter.
