Does the Canon 7D have a built in motor to focus lenses like the Nikon D90?
I'm thinking about swapping systems, but if the 7D doesn't have a motor, its a deal breaker.
No. All Canon lenses have the focus motor inside the lens.
Canon has the motor in the lenses - all of them. That's why they have no AF compatibility issues like Nikon. I'm not saying that they don't have any lens compatibility issues though.
Since 1988 when Canon suddenly dropped their FD mount and adopted the EOS mount, the autofocus motors are in the lenses, not the camera body.
Absolutely every Canon EOS DSLR camera has a built in motor to auto focus.
I've been using the EOS 7D for a long time now, for sports, action, low light, events, portraits and it couldn't be better.

When Canon introduced their first auto focus 35mm film camera they made the decision to place the focusing motor in the lens. They have kept with that philosophy ever since.
