New Nikon D3000 not working?

I'm really upset right now. I just bought this new camera this morning, it's my first camera that's more than a basic digital. I followed all of the instructions, and it was working fine all afternoon.
Then I decided to take a few more pictures and it stopped working.
Everytime I try to take a picture it says "Error. Press shutter release button again", I've tried turning it on and off, taking out the battery… The manual says to talk to nikon represtative… I don't want to have to send it off… I just got it:'(
I just want to cry right now, but I know that won't help anything…

Did I break it? Is this a common problem? Is there a way to fix it?

It could be a faulty unit.simple as that.

see if the store you bought it from has a return period. I know that best buy has a 14 day return period on cameras. Simply go back and show them the problem. They should exchange the camera. If they do not, call nikon and send it to them to fix/replace.

If you can return it to the store you bought it from. Otherwise find someone very familiar with your camera and have them look at it. You may have just gotten the rare "lemon" that eluded quality control. I recommend that you take it back and exchange it for the D3100 model instead which is a better and newer camera. The D3000 is no longer considered "new" because the D3100 superseded it.
