My Nikon d40 lens are stuck in one position?

My lens that came with the camera are stuck. Why did this happen and how can i fix it?
-I bought this on ebay (somewhat new-had it for a yr)
-No warranty
-Has not been dropped

I know i can call nikon but i don't have a warranty to cover it and i don't want to pay more to fix it.

So i need advice on getting this fixed or some cheaper lens i can buy for my d40?

stuck on the 55, won't move either way

Can you be a little more specific by stuck? The zoom is stuck? It won't focus? Stuck on the camera? What kind of lens?

Broken zoom mechanism, you won't be able to fix it yourself. You can have it repaired by professionals, but obviously could be expensive. I suggest you get a new lens. All the photo and video equipment I need, I buy from these guys (best prices around):
