Low cost wide angle lens for Nikon D3100?

I'm getting a D3100 and want a wide angle lens.something pretty basic. But without any of that fisheye curvy image nonsense. I don't know much about lenses or DSLRs as I've always used a PnS camera. My budget is 80-90 dollars.I've seen some Nikkor wide angles for 80$ .pretty simple. No zoom.

Well, your 18-55 is the best you can do for that budget

a true superwide angle lens will cost you around $650 (for the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8) to $800 (for the Nikkor 10-24mm), and beyond

If 18mm isn't wide enough start looking for a used sigma 10-20 or a first generation tokina 12-24. You're not going to get decent wide for less than that.

Ah you must have seen the Wide Angle CONVERTERS. I'd stay away from those, as I have ordered one from Ebay and there's significant distortion around the lens [e.g.instead of a crisp image, blue, and red distortion is seen instead]. Look for a used Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 on ebay or anywhere else. It really is the closest to cheap I've seen so far from a wide angle. Trust me, 18-55mm is wide considering that I started off with an 18-55mm kit lens as well.
If you want to do wide angle LANDSCAPES, get photoshop cs3, cs4 or cs5 and there's a utility called photomerge where you can merge as many photos as you want [and even do a 360 degree panorama].
^This is a cheap solution and yes I do use it too if done right.

Message me if you want a tutorial on photomerge.

The 18-55 kit lens is pretty good. If you want to go wider than that its gonna cost ya. I got a 10-20mm Sigma and it cost me 250 quid used and that was a bargain. Its also needs a body that has auto focus to get the best out of it so you'd be better off with a D90.

Another possibility is to use genuine 35mm film camera. Entry level DSLR's use a smaller sensor so an 18mm lens is equivalent to about 27mm on a full frame.

If you got a 35mm nikon film camera and get genuine wide angle. I've got an 19mm vivitar and a tokina wide angle for film. Processing the film is a piece of cake, and it will all be well within your budget.
